How can a piece of music be represented typographically? Sonata II is one of twenty pieces of the Sonata and Iterlude cycle, which was written by the American avant-garde composer John Cage for the prepared piano. In a experimental and iterative process the auditive was translated into a visual language. The Sonata II strolls peacefully along, yet its simplicity is constantly hindered. Its rythmic is so confused and broken the bobbing foot just doesn't want to come along. This characteristic is interpreted through an odd typographical hack: every third character is mirrored vertically. Although the appearance of the foldable poster seems systematic and structured, the viewer is constantly disturbed by the flow of reading. A sequence of 3 x 3 layouts each representing one part of the composition was created.
